FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Questions patients actually ask, answered as they would be in the clinic. Where the honest answer is "it depends on your examination", that is what is said.

Getting started

The pages linked throughout this site go into more detail on each topic; these are the questions that come up before any of that matters.

Frequently asked questions

What does treatment cost?

Fees depend on the diagnosis, the appliance system and the length of treatment, so a figure cannot honestly be given before an examination. What can be given in advance is the cost of the consultation and what it includes. Call +971 4 328 4560.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Most comprehensive cases run 18 to 30 months. Simple alignment can be much shorter; skeletal and surgical cases longer. An estimate for your case follows the records.

Am I too old for braces?

No. Adults make up a large part of the practice. Bone remodels throughout life, which is why tooth movement works at any age. What changes with age is the biology — slower movement, more attention to gum health, and existing dental work to plan around — and the fact that jaw growth can no longer be modified.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. Bring any referral letter, previous records or imaging you have.

Will my insurance cover it?

Orthodontic coverage varies widely between UAE policies and many exclude it or restrict it to specific medical indications. Check directly with your insurer. The clinic can supply the documentation they request but cannot determine your entitlement.

Do treatments hurt?

Fitting appliances is not painful. Teeth are tender for two to four days afterwards and after each adjustment, which simple analgesia and soft food usually handle. Expansion produces pressure rather than pain. Miniscrew placement is done under local anaesthetic.

Can orthodontics treat my TMJ pain?

Sometimes it helps; it is not a reliable cure and should not be sold as one. Most temporomandibular disorders improve with conservative management. Orthodontics has a role where a specific occlusal or skeletal problem is contributing and you want it corrected. See the TMJ section.

Is MARPE possible for adults?

For selected adults, yes. Suitability depends on the maturity of the mid-palatal suture and palatal bone thickness, assessed on CBCT — not on age alone. Where the anatomy does not support it, a surgically-assisted approach is recommended instead. See MARPE.

Can orthodontics cure sleep apnoea?

No. Obstructive sleep apnoea is diagnosed and managed by a physician. Oral appliance therapy is an established option within that management for selected patients, and orthodontic treatment can address structural factors, but neither is a cure. See sleep and breathing.

At what age should a child first see an orthodontist?

Around seven or eight. Most children assessed at that age need nothing but monitoring; the point of the visit is to identify the minority who benefit from early treatment — crossbites, developing Class III patterns, impacted teeth and severe skeletal discrepancies.

Do I have to wear retainers forever?

Effectively, yes, if you want to keep the result. Teeth move throughout life whether or not they have been treated. Retention is part of treatment, and this is explained before you start rather than after.

Are consultations available in Arabic?

Yes — consultations, written plans and consent discussions are available in Arabic or English.
